Over two dozen people were injured during a wagon ride at Bushel and a Peck Apple Orchard in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, while they were on an elementary school field trip. Students and adults from St. Mark Lutheran School were riding in the wagons when the driver of the tractor pulling them lost control while going down a hill.
As the tractor driver tried to regain control, the wagons started to turn sideways before overturning.
Chippewa County Sheriff Travis Hakes told USA TODAY that 25 people were injured in the crash, including three people who sustained life-threatening injuries. One person was airlifted to the hospital, while 22 others were transported to area hospitals in ambulances. Two others drove themselves to the hospital for treatment.
"Our teachers, aides, and chaperones, jumped in immediately to support the children and adults that were injured. The Chippewa County Sheriff's Department commended all of the actions that were taken. We are so thankful for the blessings God provides us through his representatives, including the local emergency responders for the support that was provided," St. Mark Lutheran School Principal Peter Micheel said in a note posted on Facebook.
